THE BEST HOTELS IN MARRAKECH

We’re in love with Marrakech, but finding a nice place to sleep can be a difficult task with so many options in this vibrant city. If you’re only staying in Marrakech for a couple days and want to visit many things (we made a blogpost of must-sees in Marrakech) in a short period of time, we would recommend finding a hotel in the city centre. That way you can maximise your time to the fullest.

If you’re staying for longer than 2 nights, we would highly recommend booking a hotel just outside of Marrakech. Because Marrakech is such a buzzin’ city, it’s nice to be able to get out of the hustle and bustle sometimes and relax in a tranquil place. Most hotels outside of Marrakech also feature a complimentary shuttle to the city centre, so staying outside of town doesn’t have to be more expensive, on the contrary!

We’ll divide our favourite hotels in 5 different price categories:

  • Category 1 – $ = < €100 per night
  • Category 2 – $$ = €100 – €250 per night
  • Category 3 – $$$ = €250 – €500 per night
  • Category 4 – $$$$ = €500 – €1000 per night
  • Category 5 – $$$$$ = €1000+ per night

Please note all room rates are peak season rates! So feel free to have a look at hotels that are in a higher price range if you’re visiting Marrakech outside of peak season, as rates can vary a lot in Marrakech depending on the time of year!

Category 1 – $ (<€100/night)

Riad Matham

If you just want a good place to stay in the middle of all the acttion, Riad Matham is a good bet! Just a short walk away from the famous Djemaa El Fna square, this hotel is perfect if you’re just staying for a couple days and don’t want to waste time in taxis or shuttles. The rooms are clean, they all have their own bathroom and there’s a nice rooftop with a view of the medina.

©️ Riad Yasmine

Riad Yasmine

Our favourite choice in this price category! This little riad with only 8 rooms is absolutely stunning and one of the most Instagrammable hotels in the world. For less than €100/night you can stay in their most basic room during peak season, if you find availability that is. Unfortunately this place is mostly fully booked at least half a year in advance, but you never know!

Category 2 – $$ (€100 – €250)

BE Marrakech

At the very bottom of this price category you’ll find BE Marrakech, which we already wrote about in our top 10 favourite places to eat in Marrakech, and you can also sleep here! Centrally located (but not easy to find!), you’ll find BE Marrakech, probably the most photographed riad in Marrakech. Perfect if you want to take some nice pictures for your Instagram feed and aren’t bothered by swarms of people in the common areas of the hotel, trying to get that perfect instagram shot too!

Dar Ayniwen

This little hotel just outside of Marrakech only has 10 suites and is therefore very private. You won’t find anything more luxurious than Dar Ayniwen in this price category. This hotel not only has a nice pool, but also a mini-spa, which is great if you want a more relaxing stay in Marrakech. The style and decoration is very traditional Moroccan, so if that’s your thing, look no further!

Les Deux Tours

At the very top of this price category, you’ll find one of our absolute favourite hotel: Les Deux Tours. We’ve already written an extensive review of the place which you can find here. We’ve been to this property 3 times already, and it just keeps getting better and better!

Category 3 – $$$ (€250 – €500)

To be honest, we feel Marrakech is lacking options at this price point. We would recommend grabbing a suite at Dar Ayniwen or Les Deux Tours if this fits your budget. Both these properties are in La Palmeraie outside of Marrakech, so if you want something in the city centre, the following two properties are a good option too:

Almaha Marrakech & SPA

Only 200 meters away from the Saadian Tombs, this riad with a beautiful courtyard pool and rooftop terrace is a great choice if you want to be in the middle of it and still have a large room. While riads normally have quite small rooms, here you’ll find the basic rooms starting at a whopping 50 square meters!

Les Jardins de la Koutoubia

This is the one if you’re all about location, location, location. Les Jardins de la Koutoubia is just a 2 minute walk from the famous Jemaa El Fna square. You won’t find a more central hotel in town!

Category 4 – $$$$ (€500 – €1000)

Fairmont Royal Palm

If you don’t mind being a little outside of the city centre and if you’re into golf, then definitely have a look at the Fairmont Royal Palm! The hard product is amazing and even though it’s a 25 minute drive to town, there’s a complimentary shuttle every two hours from morning til evening. The resort’s golf course is one of the best golf courses in Morocco. You can read our extensive review of this hotel here.

Villa des Orangers

Closer to the city centre (inside the city centre actually), you’ll find Villa des Orangers. This Relais & Châteaux property is a little oasis of calm in the middle of town. We would highly recommend this hotel, which is perfect for couples who want to be in the city centre but who also enjoy a nice spa treatment or a good meal! The rooms are definitely on the small side for the price, but the sense of space is just great and you’ll never have the feeling like you’re in a small room.

Four Seasons Marrakech

While for us it lacks the real Moroccan charm a bit, you can’t do much wrong with the Four Seasons Marrakech. It’s a great property and, being a Four Seasons, you just know the service will be of a high level. We would definitely stay here in the colder months, as they are known for heating their public and private pools to absolute perfection! Other than that, we just think there are even better properties in Marrakech at this price point.

Category 5 – $$$$$ (€1000+)

Mandarin Oriental

This all-suites & villas resort is located a little outside of Marrakech on a 20ha stunning property. We absolutely love the contemporary design with some Moroccan accents. Interiors in both the common areas as well as in the suites & villas are bright and spacious and incredibly luxurious. While service is impeccable, we heard the food was good but unfortunately not great. The Mandarin Oriental is definitely in the top 3 best hotels in Marrakech (and maybe even the best?).

Amanjena

Definitely not the best AMAN of the bunch, but it still blows 99% of other hotels in Marrakech out of the water. You won’t get the most up to date hard product at Amanjena, but you’ll do get the true vintage AMAN vibe. A vibe that’s unfortunately disappearing with the most recent city hotels they’ve been building. While you can definitely book Amanjena for less than €1000/night even in peak season, we added it in this category as incidentals and F&B here are very high and will easily take you upwards of that price.

Royal Mansour

Rated as the best property in Marrakech by many (and unfortunately also the most expensive), the Royal Mansour is a hotel you have to see to believe. No expenses were spared when building/renovating this property and the attention to detail is absolutely mind-blowing. With a staff to guest ratio of 7:1, it’s safe to say service should be of a very high level. If you’re in the mood to splurge, this is the property to do so.

Extra: just a short drive away

Kasbah Tamadot

While not in Marrakech, Kasbah Tamadot is a Richard Branson property in the Atlas Mountains, a good hour drive away from the city. The environment is incredibly beautiful and if you’re staying in Marrakech for a longer period of time, it might be a good idea to come here for a couple nights and totally unwind.

Scarabeo Camp

Located just a 45 minute drive from the centre of Marrakech in the stone dessert, you’ll find Scarabeo Camp, a glamping experience. If you like some dusty luxury, you should definitely give this one a try. Because what’s better than spending a night in a tented camp in the Moroccan desert?
