In this blogpost we will show you our favourite places to stay around the world, ranging from 5-star high-end hotels to treehouses overlooking the sea and many more unique places.
This list will be updated continuously and whenever we fall in love with a new place, we will add it to our list.
One & Only The Palm – Dubai
This intimate beachfront resort situated on The Palm of Dubai is everything we didn’t expect to find in Dubai: it is beautiful, it oozes class and there is almost no bling-bling to be found. While the rooms are incredibly spacious and comfortable, we found ourselves spending most of our time at the stunning pool and in the amazing Guerlain Spa! The perfect hotel if you’re looking for calmness and privacy in Dubai.
The St. Regis Vommuli – Maldives
Where to start? A private island in the middle of the Indian Ocean which you can only reach by seaplane, surrounded by those wonderful blue Maldivian waters with the most beautifully decorated overwater villas on it. Add the most exquisite food you’ll find in a resort and an array of (watersport) activities and you know you’re in for a treat. To top it all off you get a butler who can arrange just about anything for you and will pack and unpack your suitcase so you can enjoy every single minute you spend on the island. What’s not to like?
The Ritz-Carlton – Hong Kong
The highest hotel in the world and one of the most luxurious ones we’ve had the pleasure of staying at. A very personal service, a stunning view (when you’re not surrounded by clouds), and probably the best bed we’ve ever slept in made for an unforgettable experience! TIP: For those in Hong Kong not fancying staying here for the night but still wanting to enjoy the amazing view, do not pay 25USD to go to the observatory deck on the 100th floor, but go to the rooftop Ozone bar on the 118th floor instead and enjoy the views over a cocktail or two!
Hôtel Lutetia – Paris, France
We had very high expectations staying at Lutetia after a 4-year extensive restoration of the hotel and WOW, what a piece of art it has become! Perfectly situated on the Rive Gauche in Paris, this is by far the most beautiful city hotel we have ever stayed in. On top of the wonderful underground wellness, the stunning bar with live piano and the delicious Le Saint-Germain restaurant, guests of the hotel also benefit of the courtesy Bentley which brings you to your favourite restaurant or museum in the neighbourhood. To top it all off, all rooms and suites feature a stunning white marble bathroom with Hermès amenities.
One & Only Royal Mirage – Dubai
Built on 65 acres of lavishly landscaped gardens and with a beach of more than 1 kilometer long, this resort is the complete opposite of it’s little sister (O&O The Palm) across the water. If you’re in Dubai and you want a resort with different swimming pools, a wide range of restaurants, a buzzing beach club and plenty of things to do, this is the place to be! We only had one dinner here at their Tagine restaurant, and it was the best restaurant experience we had in at least 6 months!
SO/ Sofitel – Bangkok, Thailand
If there’s one hotel in the world that really surprised us, it’s SO/ Sofitel Bangkok! We had little to no expectations arriving here and we almost had tears in our eyes when we had to leave. They have 4 unique room themes (water, earth, wood & metal) and while not all elements are our taste (avoid earth!),most of the hotel is beautifully decorated and you can find cool art everywhere. All rooms are very spacious and have stunning views over Lumpini park and so does the wonderful infinity swimming pool. The abundance of choice at the breakfast buffet really was out of this world. After a couple less than stellar hotel experiences in Bangkok, we finally found one we look forward to returning to!
QT – Perth, Australia
This Australian hotel group is all about quirkiness and it shows in every part of the hotel. From the doorman/woman in an all latex outfit with a wig to the extravagant (but stylish!) design of the rooms, this is a hotel you have to experience to believe! We especially liked the rooftop bar with cool views over the city of Perth. But beware if you’re not a guest of the hotel: during our weekend stay there, people were lining up outside to go to the rooftop! There are multiple restaurants and bars in the hotel and to be honest, you can’t do much wrong with any of them. We absolutely loved them all!
The Strand – Yangon, Myanmar
This 5-star hotel with butler service transports you straight back to Myanmar’s colonial past. The rooms are large and comfortable, the location excellent, and the butlers will make sure everything will always be perfectly arranged. It has recently added a pool, which is perfect to take a refreshing swim after a day of sightseeing in busy Yangon! Don’t forget to have some amazing signature cocktails at the bar, which even has a live jazz-band on Wednesday!
Grand Hyatt – Hong Kong
Looking for a hotel that serves delicious food AND makes you feel right at home? Look no further than the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. Expect every guest to be treated like a king here, in the most relaxed atmosphere imaginable. Our room had amazing views over Hong Kong harbour and the afternoon tea with live piano will make you feel like you’re on the Titanic in the 1920s!
Hotel Gletscherblick – St. Anton, Austria
This small family run hotel is our go-to place for when we go skiing with the family. When on a ski holiday we don’t spend a lot of time in our rooms because we’re hitting the slopes all day, so the two main reasons we absolutely love this hotel don’t have anything to do with the rooms for once. Reason number one is you’ll have a hard time finding a better wellness anywhere in the world than here, which is perfect to relax after a tiring day of skiing. Reason number two is the food. In one word: incredible.
Treehouse – Nusa Penida, Indonesia
You won’t find a better view anywhere in terms of value for money. Overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches of Indonesia, this no-frills treehouse is perfect if you’re on a budget. But beware: the photogenic view attracts a lot of tourists to your front door!
