KOMODO ISLANDS – WHAT TO SEE

DJI_0093-2

The Komodo islands were one of the highlights of our trip to Indonesia. It is one of the 7 wonders of nature, and we can understand why. We have never seen so many little pieces of paradise in such a short time! From great snorkeling, to amazing views, to seeing the Komodo dragons, to the most beautiful beaches in the world… this place has it all!

There are different companies offering day tours but we highly recommend to stay a few days to witness everything this beautiful group of islands has to offer.

We did a sailing trip with Travass.life, where you sleep on the boat for 2 nights and spend 3 days discovering paradise! The people were amazing, the food was great and we saw some of the most beautiful places in the world!

Check out our 3-week bali guide for some amazing tips for a Bali trip!

PADAR ISLAND

It’s a well-known fact that Padar Island has become Instafamous. We hiked all the way to the top for sunset and the views were truly breathtaking! Although it was a bit cloudy when we were there, it still was magical.

When it got dark, we went back on our boat and spend the night in one of the bays of Padar Island. In the morning we got up very early to see the sunrise!

Both sunset and sunrise are really worth the hike all the way to the top!

PINK BEACH

Yes that’s right, the beach REALLY is pink! There are only about 7 pink beaches in the world. We used to think that it was just some very good editing but believe us, it’s real! On the Travass.life trip, they give you enough time to relax on this beautiful beach.

Do you know why this beach is pink? The sand gets its hue from thousands of broken coral pieces, shells, and calcium carbonate materials left behind by foraminifera (tiny marine creatures with red and pink shells) that live in the coral reefs that surround the beach.

KOMODO DRAGONS

Another stop is Rinca Island, where you get to see the Komodo dragons from up close! It was an amazing experience to see the oldest lizards in the world! In the park, you will have a guide who tells you all about these creatures. But be careful, they are wild animals, don’t come too close…

KANAWA ISLAND

When you enter the water at this Island, you will be surrounded by many starfish! For us, it was the first time seeing so many starfish from up close. This spot is also great for snorkeling or just relaxing on the beach.

KALONG ISLAND

This island is also called ‘secret bat island’. Just right after sunset you will witness thousands (YES literally thousands) of bats flying out of the mangroves. It was such a magical experience that you can’t miss, we really couldn’t believe our eyes!

TATA MAKASSAR

When the boat comes closer, you will see a paradise looking sandbar in the middle of the crystal blue sea. If you ask us what paradise looks like, this place certainly makes the list. It was the perfect place to take some aerial shots, but unfortunately we had a little drone accident where Nicolas almost lost his fingers… so no drone shots for us!

We did the schedule boat, which was really nice because we got to learn a lot of likeminded people πŸ™‚
We take all of our pictures ourselves, with our tripod.
Really hope you enjoy your trip with @Travass.life! <3

Hi, firstly you guys have an incredible blog and it’s super super helpful. My girlfriend and I are planning to visit the Komodo Islands, doing the 3 day&2 night tour by Travass. Is that what you did? I was hoping you might be able to give me more of a feel of the experience with them? We’re slightly apprehensive. Thank you!

Hey! I did the 3 day/2 night trip with them back in April. It was honestly one of my favourite parts of my whole holiday. The guides on board are so great, they have been doing it for ages and because it’s their own company, they’re really passionate about it. The food was great. It’s super easy-going, on days where there were strenuous walks, some people stayed on the boat as they didn’t want to hike. Once we’re docked, you’re free to jump off and go for a swim. They have beer on board. It’s great, I really enjoyed it. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions!
