Have you always wondered how we plan our trips? Or which criteria we use to choose our next destination?
For us it always starts with finding a high-quality flight for a great price. If you search well you can always find interesting tickets online. But with endless search engines and constantly fluctuating prices, finding a good flight can be tiresome. That’s why we made a little list of tips and tricks to help you find the best possible flight!
But before we teach you all about it, we would like to say a few words about flight booking myths. Yes, they exist. Yes, you’ve probably encountered some already. And yes, they are absolutely false! These are the top 3 biggest myths:
- Tuesday is the cheapest day to buy airline tickets
- Searching incognito in your web browser will lead to cheaper deals
- It’s impossible to predict airline prices and websites that claim they do are full of bullshit.
Now that these 3 myths are out of the way, we can finally have a look at how you’ll find the best airline ticket!
Tip 1: Be flexible with your travel dates.
If you want to fly when everyone’s flying, during school holidays for example, then expect to pay more! Same thing for flying somewhere just before Christmas, you’re not the only one! We always try to fly on days after a major holiday for that reason. Our flight on January 1 from Cambodia to The Philippines was one of the cheapest flights we’ve ever been on. Flying off-season can save a lot of money, and furthermore you’ll have more chance to be on a less than full flight, which means more space and more chance of an upgrade!
Tip 2: Be flexible with your travel times.
Nobody wants to wake up really early or land really late at night, which means those flights will usually be cheaper.
Tip 3: Be flexible with your destinations.
If it’s not possible to be flexible with your travel dates because you can only travel during certain periods, at least be flexible with your destinations. Google Flights has a great tool to find the best deals if you’re flexible with your destinations. Just go to the site, click on the map, fill in your dates and your home airport and voila, you’ll see the prices of all the destinations. We wouldn’t recommend booking via Google Flights because you’ll always find cheaper, but it’s a great tool for choosing a destination!
Tip 4: Found a deal? Book it.
Don’t wait too long with booking your flight. Unlike hotels, flights rarely get cheaper with time. They can get (much) more expensive though, so don’t hesitate, book it!
Tip 5: Sign up to newsletters of some of your favourite airlines!
Sometimes airlines will come up with great sales which only last for a couple of days and if you’re not searching for deals every day of the week, there’s a big chance you’ll miss it. That’s why we would suggest to sign up to a couple newsletters to make sure you’ll be the first to know if a sale is happening!
That way we found out that Qatar Airways has a sale going on for both Economy and Business tickets to some of our favourite destinations from 2018! So if you want to travel to Bangkok, Sydney or Melbourne like we did in 2018, or you want to join us in Ho Chi Minh, Colombo or The Maldives in the coming weeks, then you should definitely have a look at their sale. And like we mentioned in tip number 4: don’t wait for too long, because good deals don’t last!
Bangkok from €459
Colombo from €599
Ho Chi Minh from €539
Sydney from €1039
Melbourne from €989
