Having spent almost 3 months cruising through Australia in our camper van, we can safely say we’ve seen a lot of what the country has to offer. After getting tons of requests on our Instagram from followers who want to go to Australia but don’t know which places to visit, we decided to write an article about the 10 places you have to visit in Australia!
Since Australia is such a big country and most of these places are very spread out, you won’t be able to visit all 10 places in 10 days. Just enjoy the ride and try to tick off as many as possible!
Alright, let’s do this!
1. CAPE LE GRAND NATIONAL PARK
Location: Western Australia
White sand beaches, turquoise waters, kangaroos hopping freely on the beach and spectacular hikes. That’s Cape Le Grand NP in a nutshell. It’s also home to one of the greatest campsites in the world. It’s the perfect place to go swimming, bush-walking, fishing or just lay on the beach.
2. MARGARET RIVER
Location: Western Australia
Foodies heaven! Margaret River is a small town known for its craft breweries, boutiques but most importantly wineries! The best place in Australia if you want to do wine tastings paired with delicious food. Definitely stop by the farmer’s market if you’re there on a Saturday!
3. THE WHITSUNDAYS
Location: Between Queensland and The Great Barrier Reef

We’ve heard some people call this the most beautiful place in the world, and while we don’t fully agree with that statement, it definitely ranks very high in our list! The Whitsundays are a group of 74 little islands right in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. The best way to visit them and capture the natural beauty is by doing a multi-day sailing trip. Definitely stop by Hamilton Island if your budget is large enough. Celebrities who have stayed here include Oprah, Taylor Swift, Leonardi DiCaprio, Johnny Depp and many more!
4. BYRON BAY
Location: New South Wales
The ultimate surf town. Famous for its unique ambience, Byron Bay is a hip coastal town with plenty of great restaurants and bars. It’s known for its laidback and relaxed atmosphere and very popular with backpackers and surfers. Definitely visit the Lighthouse when you’re there.
5. ULURU
Location: Northern Territory
Also known as Ayers Rock, Uluru is a massive sandstone monolith smack in the middle of Australia. It’s a very sacred place to the indigenous Australians and a crucial place in the history of the country. Depending on the location of the sun the colours of the sandstone change throughout the day, making it a phenomenal sight all days long.
6. DENMARK
Location: Western Australia
A small coastal town south east of Perth surrounded by beautiful forests and spectacular beaches. Some must-sees in the area are Greens Pool, Monkey Rock, Elephant Rocks and The Valley of the Giants!
7. DAINTREE RAINFOREST
Location: Queensland
The largest tropical rainforest in Australia and definitely a must-visit when on the East Coast of Australia. It’s home to many plants and animals you won’t find anywhere else but it’s also the perfect gateway to Cape Tribulation and The Great Barrier Reef, where we had one of the most spectacular snorkelling tours every!
8. ROTTNEST ISLAND
Location: Western Australia
Just a quick ferry ride away from the city of Perth, Rottnest Island is home to white sand beaches and secluded coves. It’s also home to the quokka, the happiest animal on the planet. I mean, look at this happy little guy! 🙂
9. FRASER ISLAND
Location: Queensland
The world’s largest sand island! Here you’ll find many panoramic viewpoints and a famous shipwreck. Since the whole island is made of sand, a 4×4 is a must here! Fraser Island is also a great place to spot wild dingoes if that’s something you’re interested in. We also did a 15 minute scenic flight over the island which we can highly recommend!
10. CARLO SAND BLOW & RAINBOW BEACH
Location: Queensland
One of the coolest places we’ve ever seen and not very famous (yet). Carlo Sand Blow is a unique moonscape sand mass that offers some stunning views. Rainbow Beach right next to it gets its name from the different coloured sands and really is a sight to behold!
